In relation to the particular query raised, the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) provided my Department with the attached table which outlines the expenditure relating to the outsourcing of appointments and procedures to Private Hospitals in each year 2016-2020.

The NTPF does not fund private activity in public hospitals. The NTPF has advised that in 2016 it provided administrative support to a special HSE initiative whereby longest waiting public patients were treated in private hospitals. This support concerned disbursing payments to the participating private hospitals.

2016** 2017 2018 2019 2020
Expenditure to private hospitals 30,387,932 9,948,651 31,420,173 29,204,118 22,957,536
