565. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if her Department uses community radio for advertising and public awareness campaigns; if not, the reason, given the vital role community radio often plays in the dissemination of information to local communities; if her Department will consider using community radio for public awareness campaigns in the future; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department recognises the important role community radio plays in communicating with citizens and residents of Ireland on a daily basis. I am advised by officials that advertising was placed on community radio through an external advertising agency as recently as February of this year. At all times, value for money and reach are considerations when planning advertising campaigns, and community radio stations are assessed alongside commercial radio stations under these criteria.
