To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if any consideration has been given to bringing the Luas under the direct management of Iarnród Éireann rather than tendering for a new private operator ahead of the expiration of the current contract in November 2025; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in matters relating to the ownership of public transport operators.
The issue raised by the Deputy in relation to the ownership of the Luas is an operational matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland. Therefore, I have referred the Deputy's question to Transport Infrastructure Ireland for direct response to the Deputy.
