The Office of Public Works is examining the provision of electric charging points within its visitor carparks. It is a complex matter at most heritage locations. There can be issues around the architectural or archaeological sensitivity of the site and there may be requirements relating to planning permission.
The OPW will provide electric vehicle charging where new parking facilities are being developed or being substantially refurbished. Planning is underway for the installation of electric vehicle charging in the National Botanic Gardens subject to more detailed site assessment and availability of funding.
