Capita Business Support Services Ireland, trading as Eircode, assigns Eircodes to new property addresses using a valid postal address and verified geo-locations. An Post collects information on all new and existing buildings, as well as changes to existing addresses and Tailte Éireann (formerly Ordnance Survey Ireland) solely provide the geo-locations (latitude and longitude) for all these buildings. An Post GeoDirectory (APG), a subsidiary company of An Post and Tailte Éireann, issue a new release of database files monthly to Capita in accordance with their revised licence agreement.

Capita have advised my officials that the Eircode provided correctly geographically pinpoints the building in question. In terms of navigating to the position of the building, the design of the Eircode system provides a highly accurate latitude and longitude for all properties mapped by Tailte Éireann. By having the precise latitude and longitude of a building this enables any digital mapping and satellite navigation system to determine directions to/from a precise geographic location. These satellite navigation systems require a latitude and longitude, combined with their underlying route mapping and algorithms to produce directions.

Accuracy of these directions from the various satellite navigation systems is a function of the underlying route mapping, routing algorithms, to/from geo-locations, accuracy of the GPS device along with other factors and one in which I have no direct function.
