To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of prisoners currently accommodated at the National Violence Reduction Unit operating in the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise; the length of stay of each prisoner; how often each prisoner is reviewed; the way in which the review is carried out and, if multidisciplinary, to explain the function and statutory provision utilised; the details of any independent inspection of the facility and its method of operation since inception; if IPS staff are specifically designated and trained to work exclusively in that unit; the details of all complaints, if any, of the NVRU by staff, prisoner and-or relatives; the details of any legal action taken regarding the NVRU including the grounds and outcome of same; the total cost to run the unit over the past 12 month period; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
