My Department is committed to working with relevant stakeholders in fully considering any policy changes that may be required regarding the guidelines and regulations for the sale of codeine containing medicinal products.

Any potential changes must be supported by sufficient evidence. The evolving evidence is being actively monitored by my Department and its agencies who will consider taking any necessary further steps to support the safe and effective use of these medicines.
