270. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if there has been contact between him and the Marine Survey Office regarding the situation faced by a company (details supplied) in respect of regulations which will have a negative effect on tourism and the viability of offshore islands; and if he will make a statement on the matter. While I have regular contact with the Marine Survey Office on safety issues generally, the application of safety regulations in specific cases such as the one mentioned is a matter for that office in its role as the maritime safety regulator. The specific issue referred to in the Deputy's question has been the subject of previous parliamentary replies and as stated previously, I have asked for the situation to be reviewed in light of any new information received, recognising that the matter is one of safety in the first instance and the enforcement of relevant regulatory requirements here is a matter for the MSO.
