164. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if she and the Secretary General of her Department will appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee of Public Accounts about the delays in payments of illness benefit to circa 50,000 persons; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Secretary General will appear before the Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection on 8th November 2018 in order to update the committee on the issues pertaining to recent Illness Benefit payment matters and the steps taken to address these issues. The Secretary General will respond to any questions raised by the committee at that meeting.

In addition to his role as Accounting Officer for the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, the Secretary General is scheduled to appear before the Houses of the Oireachtas Committee on Public Accounts on a regular basis. Any matters raised at his next appearance before the PAC pertaining to recent Illness Benefit payment issues will be addressed by the Secretary General on that occasion.

I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
