I wish to advise the Deputy that factors for membership of a Public Sector Pension Scheme include:

- Employment in a public service body

- Access to the scheme being a specific condition included in the terms and conditions attached to the position, or in a written offer of employment

- There being a whole time comparator in the sector (in the case of part-time workers)

It is a matter for each Education and Training Board (ETB) to determine eligibility of applicant members in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations of the scheme.

However I am aware that the ETBs, through the Pension Task Group facilitated by my Department, are engaged with my Department officials to provide clarity on the position with regard to superannuation for certain staff in certain outdoor education centres to which the ETBs provide some funding, including the centre referred to by the Deputy.
