I am advised by the Irish Prison Service that it conducts an analysis of the snapshot of the prison population on the last day of each month. The most recent analysis of the snapshot of the prison population was conducted on 31 January 2018. This includes a breakdown by county/place of residence declared by persons on committal. This analysis has been used to provide the information requested by the Deputy.
According to that snapshot, the following table shows the breakdown by county/place of residence by prisoners serving sentences on that date.

I wish to inform the Deputy that the average annual cost of an available staffed prison space for 2016, the latest year for which a figure is available, was €69,421.
