Neither the Taoiseach nor I, as Minister of State with delegated responsibility for the CSO, have a role in relation to commissioning work from the CSO.

The Statistics Act 1993 provides that the Director General of the CSO is statutorily independent and has sole responsibility for the content of statistical releases, the publications issued and the timing and methods of dissemination of statistics compiled by the CSO.

In developing its statistical outputs, the CSO engages with and considers the views of stakeholders.
