128. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the number of small schools that have sought to avail of the appeal criteria in respect of small schools, for the retention of a teacher; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30384/14]

30 small schools were due to lose a classroom post in September 2014 as a result of the final phase of the Budget 2012 measure. 2 of these schools are closing, 1 is amalgamating and, following the appeals process, the number of schools losing is now reduced to 12 schools. Additionally, there are 48 small schools with a reduction in enrolments which means they are due to lose a teacher in September, 2014 as a result of the earlier phases of Budget 2012 measures. Following the appeals process this figure of 48 is reduced to 27 schools losing a post.
The final position on the overall staffing will not be known until the Autumn when actual enrolments are confirmed.
