Question 499: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the total projected cost to the Exchequer of amending a scheme (details supplied) in respect of An Garda Síochána and making it identical to the arrangements made for the Civil Service in Statutory Instrument 188/1980 of the Superannuation Act 1909 in respect of the cut-off point of 1 June 1973. The arrangements referred to by the Deputy were introduced for members of the Garda Síochána who were serving on or after 1 October, 1976. The number of members who retired prior to that date without reaching their pension age is not readily available and therefore it is not possible to provide the precise cost of amending the scheme as suggested by the Deputy.
