Question 139: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if he will confirm that gardaà are paid overtime or expenses for court appearances; and if so, if he will quantify the amounts paid for court appearances in 2010. [38213/11]

Overtime and travel/subsistence payments may be made to a Garda member attending court. This will depend on a number of factors, including when the member is rostered for duty and the location at which the court is sitting.
I understand from the Garda authorities that approximately 25% of overtime was expended on court duty in 2010 which equates to approximately â¬13.5m. I am further informed that it is not possible to quantify the corresponding travel and subsistence expenditure.
