Question 86: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if he will ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary is permitted to use school transport to access a school in view of the fact that this school has been established by all experts as the school which is best placed to meet their needs and enable them to develop their potential as they are entitled to under the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs (EPSEN) Act 2004. The child, referred to by the Deputy, is not eligible for school transport under the terms of the School Transport Scheme for Children with Special Needs. My Department is finalising arrangements to introduce concessionary transport, in certain circumstances, for ineligible children with special educational needs from the beginning of the 2011/12 school year. Detailed information on the updated scheme will be available on my Department's website shortly.
