The demographic projections quoted in the National Pensions Framework are from the Central Statistics Office's publication "Population and Labour Force Projections 2011-2041". These were the most up to date data available when the framework document was being prepared. The projections take account of the structure of the population identified in the 2006 Census of Population and the most up to date demographic trends at the time. These data are in line with previous projections which showed a broadly similar pattern of increasing old age dependency over the medium to long term. Projected increases in expenditure on public pensions and the projected economic outlook were prepared by the Department of Finance.
