Question 197: To ask the Minister for Defence his salary cost; the number and grades of staff in his Department on a comparable or higher salary; the amounts in each case; the remuneration package of officerholders in all forms of State agencies under the aegis of his Department which are comparable or higher than his salary, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My salary costs are as follows:

In relation to transport, I have the use of a ministerial car that is driven by members of An Garda Siochána. The costs in relation to the operation of this car are not borne by the Department.
The Secretary General of my Department is paid a salary of â¬188, 640 and the Chief of Staff is paid a salary of â¬179,658. The Chief of Staff is provided with an official car and military driver for official duty purposes.
No other staff in the Department, the Permanent Defence Forces or the State agencies under the aegis of the Department are in receipt of a comparable or higher remuneration package.
