Responsibility for applying to host the World Equestrian Games rests with the relevant National Governing Body of Sport, in this case Horse Sport Ireland, and not the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism or the agencies under its aegis.

I was informed by Horse Sport Ireland at the end of October, that following consideration of the matter at board level they decided not to proceed with a bid to host the 2014 World Equestrian Games. Horse Sport Ireland is confident that Ireland would bid for the World Equestrian Games at some stage in the future.
