Question 640: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if there are grants available to farmers who wish to retain and repair old stone barns and other farm buildings; and if there are no grants currently available, her plans to introduce such grants. [11776/08]

I have introduced a new supplementary measure in REPS 4 specifically for traditional farm buildings. Grants of 75% of the cost up to a maximum grant of â¬25,000 will be available to carry out approved conservation works and the balance must be from the applicant's own resources.
The Irish Heritage Council will administer this supplementary measure and all applications will be assessed by them. The Heritage Council will be involved at all stages of delivery and upon certification by them of satisfactory completion of works, payment will issue from my Department.
