Question 256: To ask the Minister for Transport and the Marine if he will put in place a dedicated bus for the transport of patients, in view of the decision of Bus Éireann to discontinue the buses which service Mullingar and Tullamore Hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of a bus service on a specific route by Bus Éireann is a day to day operational matter for the company. Where Bus Éireann ceases to provide a service, it is open to any private bus operator to apply to my Department for a licence under the Road Transport Act, 1932. Currently, my Department has no application from a private bus operator to provide a bus service between Mullingar and Tullamore Hospital.
