My Department is engaged in an on-going building and maintenance programme designed to improve the training, operational and accommodation facilities available to both the Permanent Defence Forces and the Reserve. The programme focuses mainly on the construction of new buildings, the refurbishment of existing buildings and civil engineering work within the barracks. This includes on-going annual maintenance.
The funding available for 2007 is almost â¬43 million. The following table which I propose to circulate in the Official Report details the projects over â¬1 million planned for 2007.
In 2006, â¬31 million was spent on barrack improvements. The following table for 2006, which also I propose to circulate in the Official Report, details all the main projects initiated in 2006 and the level of progress on each. All of these projects are progressing as anticipated.
