Question 430: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the amount of expenditure on consultancy by his Department in 2003, 2004 and 2005; the number of consultants engaged by his Department in those years; and the steps which have been taken to reduce the expenditure on consultancy and the reliance on consultants by his Department in these years and for the future. My Department has made available on its website details regarding consultancies (excepting those of minor value, i.e., less than â¬5,000 excluding VAT), relating to the period since the Department's establishment in June 2002 up to the end of October 2006. The relevant link, which will take the Deputy directly to these details, including the information for the three years sought by him, in relation to expenditure paid by my Department is
www.pobail.ie/en/CorporateSupportServices/ Finance/Consultancies. For the Deputy's convenience, I have arranged for a copy of the material in question to be sent directly to him at his Oireachtas e-mail address. My Department keeps under close review the need for consultants in order to control expenditure and ensure value for money. Rigorous adherence to this approach will continue into the future.
