Question 524: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is satisfied with the number of gardaà assigned to the Glanmire sub-district; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that sometimes during the night there may only be one to two gardaà on duty to cover the whole sub-district; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that a person detained or arrested in Glanmire has to be taken to the district headquarters at Cobh to be processed, which could take a number of hours and leaves all of Glanmire without any Garda presence; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the number of gardaà available for duty has decreased in recent times even with a large population increase; if the number of gardaà available for duty in Glanmire will be increased; if the provision of a new Garda station will be expedited; if he is satisfied with the reply received from the Garda authorities (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have sought information from the Garda authorities on the detailed issues raised in this question and I will be in contact with the Deputy as soon as it becomes available.
