The only fares I regulate are standard fares. Discounts on standard fares are a commercial matter for Iarnród Ãireann. It is open to the company to offer promotional or discounted fares within this framework. I understand from the company that it offers a day saver return ticket as an example of such a discounted fare. This promotional ticket is offered at the same price as a single journey ticket as part of the company's policy to encourage the use of train services by offering value for money for day return journeys.
