On the basis of the information received from Bus Ãireann, my Department is not in a position to approve a service in this case as the minimum number of eligible children required from a distinct locality has not been met. A school transport service may be established where there are seven or more eligible pupils from a distinct locality offering for transport to school. In order to be eligible pupils must live 3.2 km. or more from their nearest school and be attending that school. Bus Ãireann has confirmed that the distance to the school is measured taking the shortest vehicular route. The families of eligible children have been offered grant aid towards the cost of private transport arrangements.
