Question 174: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the reason school transport was not provided for persons attending Urlingford national school even though it was promised to families after Clomantagh and Graine schools closed (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The children to whom the Deputy refers in the details supplied are being provided with a transport service to Urlingford national school. They are obliged, however, to travel to a pick-up point. As a rule primary school transport routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have more than 1.5 miles to travel to a pick-up point. The children in question reside 0.3 miles and 0.7 miles from the route of the service to Urlingford national school. As this service is within guidelines, an extension or re-routing of service is not warranted.
