Question 274: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the number of claims notified to him pursuant to clause 6(A) of the deed of indemnity dated 5 June 2002, made between him and certain religious congregations; the number of such claims classed as existing and as future claims; the number of such claims in each category of which he had previously no formal notice; the number of such claims in each category in which no State or public body had either been joined as a defendant or had been put on notice that they were liable to be joined as a co-defendant; the number of cases where, pursuant to clause 5(A) of the agreement, he has taken over the defence of legal proceedings to which the indemnity applies, specifying whether he or any other State or body had been a defendant in those proceedings prior to their being taken over; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
