Visit of Icelandic Delegation
2:00 am
Mark Daly (Fianna Fail)
Before I call the Leader on the Order of Business, we are delighted to welcome our friends from Iceland - the Speaker of the Icelandic Parliament, who is most welcome, along with her delegation. I thank her for being here today and for her visit to Ireland.I know they have a series of meetings with our newly formed friendship group. I am delighted they are going to meet with them. They met the Ceann Comhairle in the other Chamber, and we had a number of discussions on a wide range of topics. Climate change was a key one, along with security for us and them. Fishing obviously has to come into it and our ongoing and enduring historical connections. While we are glancing back over our work together as democracies for the past almost 100 years, we look forward to working with them into the future. Our guests asked about the workings of Seanad Éireann. I said it would take too long and they would end up losing the will to live if I had to explain all of it. They are most welcome to Seanad Éireann, and I thank them for joining us.
