This amendment provides for consequential amendments to the Broadcasting and Other Media Regulations, 2009 and 2022. It follows the pattern in those Acts of scheduling matters that might be subject to regulation of online media. It covers the new offences provided for in this Bill relating to stalking, harassment and non-fatal strangulation. The effect of this is to allow the online safety commissioner, working under Coimisiún na Meán, to develop online safety codes which require certain online platforms to minimise, at a systemic level, the availability of online content by which a person commits any of the offences covered. These codes will set out standards that online platforms must follow in relation to user complaints relating to this type of content.
