I move amendment No. 38:

In page 22, between lines 9 and 10, to insert the following: (3A) In making recommendations for appointment of persons to the Commission, the Public Appointments Service shall have regard to the need to ensure that the members of the Commission broadly reflect the nature of Irish society and that such persons possess knowledge of, or experience in—
(a) matters connected with human rights and equality, and

(b) without prejudice to the generality of paragraph (a), matters connected with persons or classes of persons who are disadvantaged by reference to the following factors:
(i) gender;

(ii) civil status;

(iii) family status;

(iv) sexual orientation;

(v) religious belief;

(vi) age;

(vii) disability;

(viii) race, including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin;

(ix) membership of the Traveller community.
(3B) In this section, the factors specified in subparagraphs (ii), (iii), (iv), (v), (vii) and (ix) of subsection (3A) have the meanings ascribed to them in section 2 of the Employment Equality Act 1998.”
