I welcome the Minister for Education, Deputy Foley. I also welcome the Chair of the Joint Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Deputy Kehoe. I thank the committee clerk for all the work she has put into this initiative. This is one of the recommendations from a report on Seanad reform that we are implementing. This is the second instance where we have brought in the Chair of a committee and we are delighted that the Minister is here as well. Six to 12 months after the reports have been published and launched we look again at the recommendations to see the progress that has been made on their implementation. Committee members in the Oireachtas and the general public put a lot of work and effort into those reports and it is important that the recommendations that are agreed by all sides are actively implemented.
