Affordable Housing Bill 2021: Committee Stage
9:30 am
John Cummins (Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
I wish to make a final point. In his speech on Second Stage, the Minister stated that we cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the good. We must use all of the tools at our disposal to resolve the housing crisis that we face. Ideology is not going to fix the housing crisis. If we were to take Senator Warfield's suggestion in respect of Fingal, we would go back three or four years. All of the families who would be placed in private, social and affordable homes in that area over that three or four-year period, would not be in any home. As a State, we must use all the mechanisms at our disposal. The delay tactics of the Opposition are not good enough. We should all be in there, rolling up our sleeves and working together on this legislation. Trying to put up obstacles is not the way forward. I ask the Senator to reconsider his amendment.
