Criminal Justice (Hate Crime) Bill 2020: Second Stage
10:30 am
Jerry Buttimer (Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
Notwithstanding the remarks of Members of the House, this is a very important Bill.Senator O'Loughlin deserves to be supported for bringing it forward. There are many people in our society who are less privileged that us, in particular those in the transgender community, and we have a lot of work to do as a society. I want to commend the Senator on bringing this legislation forward and it is something we can work on. It is about reducing hate, enshrining and protecting people and enhancing their quality of life but it is also about ensuring that we live up to the aspirations of the Proclamation. I want to commend those behind this Bill, because it is the stepping stone and the platform from where, as the Minister said, we can collectively go to make life better for people.
