On the International Day of the Girl, I was lucky enough to be in Benin in west Africa. The trip highlighted to me the role played by women and young girls in developing countries. A credit union had been established and it was the first time that dividends were being paid. All of the women who collected their dividends did so in order to educate their young children. The credit union initiative is working in places in west Africa and across the African continent and means women are more empowered in certain countries than in others. I urge people here to take heed and learn that lesson.
