Children's Health Bill 2018: Committee and Remaining Stages
2:30 pm
Máire Devine (Sinn Fein) | Oireachtas source
I move amendment No. 32:
In page 14, to delete line 7 and substitute the following: “profession,
(g) is found to have a conflict of interest, including any prospect of financial gain from the functions of the services provided by Children’s Health Ireland and its subsidiaries.”.
I seek to add a new subsection to section 17 disqualifying someone from holding officer or from being a member of the board if he or she is found to have a conflict of interest, including any prospect of financial gain from the functions of the services provided by children's health Ireland and its subsidiaries. This is eminently sensible as a situation cannot be accepted where someone is supposed to be making decisions from which he or she could benefit financially. It would be prudent and proper to accept this amendment. This situation exists in numerous agencies and organisations. Somebody with a conflict of interest should not sit on the board or hold office.
