25th Anniversary of Decriminalisation of Homosexuality: Motion
2:30 pm
Ned O'Sullivan (Fianna Fail) | Oireachtas source
Roosevelt said that we have nothing to fear but fear itself. Fear of change motivated a great many of the people who opposed the passage of the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill. I think fear was at the root of much of the "No" vote. I sympathise with people who have fear. We have to assuage their fears and work with people to help them through those fears.
Their fears are unfounded. Nothing happened when homosexuality was decriminalised. The country did not fall to pieces. We did not all become rampant homosexuals overnight.
