Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Bill 2017: Committee Stage
10:30 am
David Norris (Independent) | Oireachtas source
I support this amendment for the reasons Senator Boyhan, my colleague and friend, has stated but also because the three significant elements are met within the Bill. First, we have to have the court deciding that it is a sufficiently minor offence to be tried in this manner. Second, we have to have the agreement of the accused and the co-operation of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP. There will be no conflict here and it seems to me to be the reasonable thing to do and it also follows the tradition of the treatment of other offences in a similar manner.
