Thar ceann Seanad Éireann, is mian liom fáilte croíúil a chur roimh an t-Uasal Phil Hogan, An Coimisinéir Eorpach um Talmhaíocht agus Forbairt Tuaithe. Thug an Seanad cuireadh don gCoimisinéir Hogan an Teach aitheasc mar duine oirirc. On behalf of Seanad Éireann I warmly welcome Mr. Phil Hogan, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development. Commissioner Hogan has been invited by the Seanad to address the House as a distinguished person. This is his second address to the House since his appointment as Commissioner in 2014, hence signifying the importance the Seanad places on agriculture and rural development issues at home and abroad. Before his appointment as EU Commissioner, Mr. Hogan had a long and distinguished career in Irish politics. Who better therefore to understand the challenges and opportunities for farmers and farming families, than someone who has grown up on a farm and lived his life representing a rural constituency in Ireland.
