Doctors have been able to do what they do. That is why it has been so wrong to reach for the Savita Halappanavar case when that tragedy showed in the various reports that there was a failure to manage sepsis properly just as can and does happen on occasion in abortion jurisdictions. There has been a real lack of respect shown to the truths of our history around how the eighth amendment has actually operated to respect two patients. I hope the Irish people will have more sense than their political masters and that they will vote to protect that law that cherishes both lives while always doing more to support women in crisis pregnancies and to find ways that help but without harming.
