I must talk about broadband not just because it is topical but because it remains a barrier to those seeking to set up or expand businesses. A slow and unreliable connection means many people cannot confidently rely on regular access to the Internet. I was returning from London at the time Fianna Fáil sold off the country's main telecommunications system. Why would one sell it off? Could the then Government not have been forward-thinking enough to say "Hold on". Did it not foresee that a French billionaire was going to end up being responsible for whether I can send a bloody email?
