I welcome the Minister, Deputy Naughten, to the House. I am delighted to see him here and hope he is recovering well.
I second the proposal made by my colleague, Senator Gallagher and thank the Sinn Féin Party Members and Independent Senators who have supported the motion here this afternoon. Since he entered the Department, the Minister is aware, as are many Members of the House, that this project has been going on for well over a decade. It is a decade in which communities in Meath, Cavan and Monaghan suffered greatly as a result of the concern about what will happen to them. It is ten years during which EirGrid has told untruths, has misrepresented the situation that exists and has misrepresented the consequences of its insistence on putting more than 290 pylons over one of the most beautiful parts of the island.
