Rent Certainty (No. 2) Bill 2016: Second Stage

I would like the Minister to address the regulation of Airbnb. I have raised it several times before. Approximately 10,000 housing units in Dublin have been taken out of the private rental market and are being used for Airbnb. It is an unregulated market and people can charge what they like and provide accommodation whatever way they like. This summer, due to the difficulties of getting accommodation in the city, I had the misfortune of using Airbnb several times. Some of the accommodation was not very pleasant. It did not do what it said on the pack. One is trying to get accommodation at the 11th hour in the city, and sometimes one ends up in a place one would not put a dog in. To say that implementing the Bill would affect the market is an excuse for doing nothing, and I do not accept excuses for doing nothing.
