I commend Senator David Norris for tabling the Bill, the general intention of which I support, and I congratulate the Minister of State, Deputy David Stanton, on his appointment. The stated purpose of the Bill is to provide for the regularisation of residency status of persons who have applied for refugee status and-or subsidiary protection and-or leave to remain if, four years following the submission of such application, the application remains undetermined. In light of the outcome of Brexit and in light of the Bill itself, I support the Government's amendment to defer discussion of Second Stage of this Bill for 18 months.

I second the amendment.
