I have a lot of sympathy with Senator Ó Clochartaigh on this matter, having spoken to people within the system. There are very talented people who would make a huge contribution to our society. I have, however, also been most impressed with the way in which the Minister of State has dealt with this issue head on since he took up his position a year and a half ago. Not a lot happened for eight or ten years or however long. Now, on balance, a lot is happening, perhaps not at the speed we would like but, to be fair, at least it is happening. The Bill is a significant step in the right direction and I would urge Senator O'Donovan and others not to press the amendment and to have good faith with the Minister of State on this aspect.
