I agree with the point made by Senator Bacik. In fairness, the Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill was in preparation for a considerable period and much work had been done in this area. It is very disconcerting to receive a Bill and have so many amendments tabled by the Government within a couple of days of receiving it. It strikes those with whom I have been discussing the Bill, particularly in the NGO sector, that it is very much a half-baked Bill which is being rushed at the last minute to push it through.I want to register our major concerns about the way this is being pushed through and the fact that it will be guillotined on Monday.
