Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Bill 2015: Committee and Remaining Stages

It is because we are moving the threshold.The threshold is going up from €15,000 to €17,500 so under this arrangement no income below €17,500 would be subject to the pension-related deduction, PRD. Since the basic rate for councillors is currently €16,250 councillors are below the €17,500 threshold and no PRD would be taken from their base allowance. Some councillors would have allowances for mayoral positions or for strategic policy committee chair positions, but I am talking about the core salary. However, all income will benefit from the new thresholds from PRD.
