Senator Quinn's amendment is well thought out, particularly in a situation where documentation that would have a crucial impact on the day-to-day running of a business is removed. That seems to me to be a crippling of business for no good reason. Unless an original document is required for legal purposes - for example, by the court - then a copy of it should be taken and the original should remain with the business. Often, it is only the information contained in the document that is necessary. I believe that is reasonable.

With regard to amendment No. 36 and the provision of a receipt, I believe that is absolutely essential. One has only to recall the number of times Garda files and public records have gone missing. Documents have been lost on many occasions and from places where one would imagine they would be secure. It is vital that receipts be provided. It is natural, when one takes something, to issue a receipt for it. That is inarguable in my opinion.
