I wish to mention the shortage of nurses. I received a letter from someone who owns a nursing home. He or she cannot get agency nurses because agencies are contracted to the HSE which means private nursing homes cannot employ nurses. Such nursing homes cannot bring in nurses from outside the country because nurses must complete an adaptation course before taking up work here. I know that one Filipino nurse who was in the country had to wait 12 months for a place on an adaptation course.
