If we do not discuss the amendments, we are not doing our duty.

If we do not discuss them, we will not do our duty. How can we do our duty properly if we are placed in the position of having to continue to debate these issues until 4 a.m., 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.? Many people will ask about Senators' judgment at that time of the morning. We can stay until the early hours and feel patriotic about it or that we have made a great sacrifice but we will not do good a job.
